The Brilliant Secret of the Ceranites

Shorter blog post today, I wound up being busier than I expected. There will be more days like this, it’s all part of the challenge I’ve set before myself!

Today I’d like to share one species from a space opera setting I’ve been working on off and on for years. There will be more general setting information in the future, but this species (which was actually designed for a different campaign that never came to fruition) was the first thing I ever made for it. I give you, the Ceranites:

Ceranites are a common sight across the galaxy, and are widely believed to be the first of the modern spacefaring peoples. They range in height from about 3 feet to well over 8, and have a similarly wide distribution of weights and builds. They have four fingers on each hand, solid dark eyes, and a pair of pointed, skin covered horns extending vertically from their brows. In most light, their skin ranges from a light blue to a deep purple, but a brilliant secret is revealed under certain wavelengths. Iridescent greens, yellows, reds, pinks, and teals, spread across their bodies in intricate, winding patterns. Nobody has been able to assemble a complete list of the conditions under which these patterns are visible, and some Ceranites devote their lives to unraveling the secrets etched on their skins. The Ceranite home planet has been lost to time, and many believe the key to recovering it lies in the study of their patterning.
